Saturday, March 21, 2015
The Final Fantasy Type-0 Collector's Edition that came earlier this Tuesday so I guess my very first review will be on receiving this game! I was planning on doing a makeup review but this game beat me to it. I don't see any reviews of the unboxing so I've decided to share this with those who are unsure if they want to splurge on this. yoroshiku

Here are the contents of the limited collector's edition as pictured:

The Collector's Edition was released on March 16, 2015 at a value of $100 (with tax +shipping, $117.15) After hearing horror stories about Square Enix's shipping company, Pepita, I was pretty worried and scared about placing an order.. I never ordered from the official Square Enix online store so I wasn't sure what to expect. I went and pre-orderd anyway and surprisingly, the box came fine without a dent. The game was protected by a thick mass of paper which was comparable to AmiAmi's shipping. I was quite pleased with this, so Pepita has gained a favorable ground in my eyes.

cards1 Golden Steelbook Case
Personally, this was the most exciting item I was looking forward to receiving. The case is simply gorgeous with the cover art featuring the two Goddesses of Orience illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano. I'm a big fan of his art so naturally I was very excited to have this. Inside the case, you will notice the Japanese kanji for the game title: 零, or "Rei," meaning "zero," and 式, or "shiki," meaning "type."

This case houses the game disc, soundtrack cd, and booklets containing tracklist and the Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae Demo Code. The soundtrack consists of a selection of 15 music tracks handpicked by the composer of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, Takeharu Ishimoto. Ishimoto has composed the soundtracks for a few other Square Enix titles including Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII as well as the Dissidia games. It should be noted however that the FFXV Episode Duscae codes are limited only to Day One editions of the Collector's edition as a special gift to those who fans who pre-order. This means only the first shipment of copies will carry this demo. It will never be released as a stand-alone. However, currently you can also purchase codes off ebay in case you have not recieved a Day One copy.

cards2 200 page Manga
This manga is the English reproduction of the Japanese manga released in 2011, illustrated by Takatoshi Shiozawa. Depending on your region however, there are also German and French editions. The manga follows the storyline of the game, giving more insight on the game's characters and also features new characters. On Square Enix's post, they noted that it adds new situations as well so you may want to hold off on reading it until you complete the game.

cards1 5 Life-Size Replicas of Class Zero's Ace's Cards
You might be wondering why I have 6 cards pictured above instead of the 5 mentioned. No, I did not recieve an extra card, haha. I only included an extra one above to show you the back design on the cards.
The cards are replicas of Ace's Type-0 Eidolon cards: (in order as pictured, left to right) Diabolos, Bahamut, Ifrit, Odin, and Shiva. They are roughly 3.5 x 7 inches. Although accurate to the illustraton, I have to say the cards would be nicer if they had taken the liberty of making some of the embellishments holographic. I say this, because Ace's cards have an opalescent glow in the game and these cards look rather flat in comparison. Nevertheless, they are still beautifully illustrated.

cards2 80 page Concept Art Book
The artbook is titled "Class 842" and features works by Yusuke Naora, Tetsuya Nomura, and many more artwork and CG renders from the game. The dimensions of the artbook measure about 7.5 x 10.5 inches so roughly the size of a sheet of normal writing paper. I've included a glimpse of what is inside this artbook. Isn't Mutsuki cute?? Out of all the side characters she's pretty adorable. I also included photos of two of my favorite illustrations in the whole book. I have to say however, my personal opinion on this book is that I would have preferred more interesting illustrations. There are many cg's in here that reflect the not-so high quality cg's from the game. Compared to work from the FFXIII and Lightning Returns series, the quality resembles old cg art from Final Fantasy.. nice but not at all the stunning quality experienced in the latest FF series. This came as surprising to me, because usually they are good on brushing up older graphics for games rather than just throwing them in to save time.

Overall, I'm somewhat pleased with this collection. I think as I've matured over the years, I have higher expectations for Final Fantasy and although this collection is good for it's value... They just aren't really particularly trying to go above and beyond that.

The little details count and so I have to rate this collection as 4 out of 5. The golden steelbook was the most impressive to me in quality. I had to deduct for the rest not being overly impressing. Although in it's defense, it is still the best set compared to the other editions.
Thanks for reading~! sayonara
